PHARMACOLOGY: When Nepafenac is administered into the eyes, it penetrates the cornea and distributes to all intraocular compartments and the tissues including the aqueous humor, ciliary body, iris, retina and choroid. After reaching to the ocular tissues, by the ocular hydrolysis, it is converted to the active non steroidal anti inflammatory drug (NSAID) i.e. Amfenac.

• Nepafenac inhibits the action of cyclooxygenase, an enzyme responsible for production prostaglandins.
• Nepafenac targets the interior segment of eye, intraocular and vascularised tissues.

INDICATIONS: Nepafenac ophthalmic suspension is indicated for the treatment of:

• Post operative pain and inflammation associated with cataract surgery
• Cystoid macular edema following cataract surgery.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE: The application of Nepafenac Ophthalmic suspension is one drop in the conjunctival sac of the affected eye (s) 3 times daily beginning 1 day prior to cataract surgery, continued on the day prior to cataract surgery, continued on the day of surgery and for the first 2 weeks of the post operative period or as directed by the physician.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

• Hypersensitivity to the active substance, to any of the excipients, or to other non-steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS)
• Precaution should be taken if any patient that has sensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid, phenyl acetic acid derivatives and other NSAIDS because there is the potential for cross sensitivity
